Compare Mac system monitors

GlimmerStatsBar (mac stats bar) vs Stats

Both apps are free. GlimmerStatsBar (mac stats bar) combines menu bar readings with app histories, a network map, local recording and optional alerts. Stats offers its own monitoring modules and customisation choices.

If you mainly want a quick CPU and memory reading, a free app may be enough. If a specific sensor or advanced tool is essential, check that feature and your Mac's support before choosing.

When GlimmerStatsBar fits

Choose GlimmerStatsBar for free menu bar monitoring with app histories, GPU details, physical disk activity, battery information and network maps. Keep the readings you want nearby and open a detailed view when it helps.

Explore Apps and Network for a closer look, or use Recording to retain up to 24 hours of sampled history and export CSV. Optional alerts can flag low battery, low storage, sustained CPU use, memory pressure and thermal pressure.

Check the readings you need

More monitoring modules, including GPU and supported sensors. Fan control is listed as a legacy feature that is not maintained.

GlimmerStatsBar now includes GPU details, app monitoring, physical disk activity and supported temperatures and fan speeds through an optional companion. Hardware support varies.

The Apps tab shows CPU and memory use with selected-app histories. Optional companion details add memory footprint, disk activity and thread counts. Activity Monitor remains a useful built-in tool when you need it.

Choose around your day

A small menu bar is often easier to live with. Start with the readings that answer a recurring question, then add others as needed. More displayed numbers do not automatically make a Mac faster or a problem easier to identify.

The comparisons below can help if you are also considering another free monitor or a different paid suite.
